The Lithuanian parliament has recognized the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine as genocide against the Ukrainian people. MEPs unanimously passed a resolution to this effect in Vilnius on Tuesday.

The representative body of the Baltic EU and NATO country in Vilnius referred to “mass war crimes” by the Russian army, such as murder, torture and rape of Ukrainian civilians.

Moscow’s intention is to destroy the Ukrainian nation in whole or in part, it said. All perpetrators would have to be held accountable and a special international court established to investigate the crime of Russian aggression. “The Russian Federation, whose armed forces deliberately and systematically attack civilian targets in order to bomb them, is a state that supports and perpetrates terrorism,” the statement said.
