After two years without being able to travel and the arrival of new conductor Rafael Payare, the Orchester symphonique de Montréal is announcing two international tours.

The OSM will perform in South Korea from July 5 to 8, then in several European cities from October 21 to 28.

The South Korea tour program will include Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No. 1 and Piano Concerto No. 3, Mahler’s Symphony No. 5, as well as works by Ravel and Debussy. American violinist Hilary Hahn and Korean pianist Yekwon Sunwoo will join the tour, which will begin in Seoul and continue to Daegu and Tongyeong.

The OSM will also celebrate the 60th anniversary of its first European tour. He will give concerts in Zagreb, Budapest, Vienna, Brussels and London under the direction of Maestro Payare. Pianists Vikingur Olafsson and Bruce Liu (Icelandic and Montreal), as well as Italian violinist Augustin Hadelich will accompany the Orchestra.

The program in Europe will notably include Liszt’s Preludes, Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G major, Scorpius by Canadian R. Murray Schafer, and Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini by Rachmaninoff.

Note that on May 5, 1962, the OSM gave its very first concert abroad in Vienna.
