Berlin is gradually waking up from the two-year pandemic sleep, but the corona virus is not gone yet. Now the next round of budget consultations will be held in the Berlin House of Representatives on Friday. The reason: A budget politician in the coalition has Corona and may have infected the other budget holders from the SPD, Greens and Left Party in several advisory rounds in the past few days. Several budget politicians confirmed this to the Tagesspiegel.
All parliamentary groups therefore agreed on Thursday that the consultations on Friday should be omitted. According to Tagesspiegel information, this was decided in particular with a view to the otherwise tight schedule. Several corona cases with days of isolation could seriously delay budget deliberations. Especially since the important chapter on traffic is due next week – there are still massive discrepancies.
However, the delay comes at an inopportune time for the factions. The schedule for the budget deliberations on the Berlin Senate’s draft is tight, which is why an extra session will probably be held soon. Longer absences of important actors such as the parliamentary directors or the budget spokesman could jeopardize the schedule. As early as June 23, the Berlin House of Representatives is to decide on the new double budget.
